Roland Ho Roland K Ho, CFA
Mr. Ho co-founded ASCENT. Mr. Ho serves as the firmís Chief Investment Officer and lead portfolio manager. Prior to ASCENT, Mr. Ho co-founded and co-managed the Credit Mortgage Group at Trust Company of the West (ďTCWĒ). At TCW, Mr. Ho oversaw a team of more than 40 investment professionals, who together, raised and managed over $35 billion in assets. Prior to TCW, Mr. Ho headed the investment research department at Hyperion Capital Management. Mr. Ho holds a BA and an MA in Electrical Science from Cambridge University, England. Mr. Ho also studied for his doctorate in Mathematics at the Imperial College, University of London. Mr. Ho is a CFA charter holder.
Rich Gupta Rich Gupta
Mr. Gupta co-founded ASCENT. Mr. Gupta serves as the firmís Risk Manager and Compliance Officer. Prior to joining ASCENT, Mr. Gupta was a member of the teams that created both Countrywide Alternative Investments and CapitalFusion Partners. Prior to that, Mr. Gupta managed the transaction and operational risk management function related to the multi-billion dollar trading books of structured products for Prudential Securities. Mr. Gupta helped build and manage the infrastructure and operational framework used to originate and manage structured product transactions. Mr. Gupta holds a B. Com. from University of Allahabad, India. He also holds a MBA in Finance from Long Island University, New York.
Qun Ju Qun Ju, Ph.D
Ms. Ju is a founding member of ASCENT. Ms. Ju is responsible for RMBS analysis and portfolio management. Prior to joining ASCENT, Ms. Ju served as the RMBS product manager in the Credit Mortgage Group at Trust Company of the West (TCW). Ms. Ju is an expert in quantitative analysis of all securitized and structured products and their derivatives. Prior to TCW, Ms. Ju was with Hyperion Capital Management, where she was responsible for investment analysis for RMBS and CMBS, and development of many credit valuation models. Ms. Ju holds a BA in Computer Science and an MA in Applied Mathematics from Peking University. In addition, Ms Ju holds an MA in Mathematics from the John Hopkins University and a PhD in Computer Science from Brandeis University.
Sajjad Naqvi Sajjad H. Naqvi
Mr. Naqvi is a founding member of ASCENT. Mr. Naqvi is responsible for research, analysis and portfolio management. Prior to joining ASCENT, Mr. Naqvi was with Trust Company of the West (TCW). Mr. Naqvi joined TCW in 2002 and worked closely with Roland Ho in the Credit Mortgage Group as the groupís Chief Credit Officer. He later held the same role with the Mortgage Backed Securities Group. Prior to TCW, he worked at Hyperion Capital Management in New York, responsible for credit analysis for ABS, CMBS, RMBS and corporate credit securities. Prior to that, he performed equity research with an Institutional Investor-ranked analyst for Smith Barney. Mr. Naqvi holds two undergraduate degrees: a BA in Political Science from the University of Winnipeg and a BS in Finance from St. Johnís University in New York. Mr. Naqvi also holds an MBA from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University in New York.
Bill Tsao Bill Tsao
Mr. Tsao joined ASCENT in 2008. Mr. Tsaoís principal responsibility is on portfolio hedging. Mr. Tsao is an expert in arbitrage strategies and risk hedging using options and futures. Mr. Tsao has had a long career as an arbitrage portfolio manager and option trader for over 25 years. Prior to joining ASCENT, Mr. Tsao worked at Presidio Advisory Services, Delphi Capital Management, Bank Leumi, AIG, LP Cook, Neuberger & Berman and Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. Mr. Tsao holds a B. Sc. from College of Chinese Culture and he also holds an MS in Finance from Polytechnic University of New York
Edward Yu Edward C. Yu
Mr. Yu joined ASCENT in 2009. Mr. Yu is responsible for real estate debt, real estate hard assets strategies and portfolio management. He has extensive experience in acquiring over US$20 billion of distressed debt, debt securities and real estate assets of all collateral property types, dating back to the early 1990ís U.S. Savings & Loan, the late 1990ís Thai Finance Co., the early-2000ís Japan Banking and the current U.S. Financial Crises. Prior to ASCENT, Mr. Yu was a consultant with Lone Star Funds, and on the team that successfully acquired over US$9.3 billion in U.S. real estate whole loans at deep discount in 2008. From 1991-2007, he held senior principal investment positions at opportunity funds managed by Carlton Strategic Ventures, Starwood Capital Group, CBRE Investors and AEW Capital Management. Mr. Yu holds a BS from University of California, Davis and a MLU from Harvard University.
Tom Peters Thomas E. Peters
Mr. Peters joined ASCENT in 2010. As a Partner in Ascent E&T, Mr. Peters employs his unique experiences to the firm's expansion into the business and financial advisory sector. He focuses his "entrepreneur in residence" expertise on investment opportunities in technology, software, energy and media.
Mr. Peters' credentials extend beyond his extensive experience in directing start-up and rapid growth organizations in senior executive positions, including business development, sales, finance, operations, technology and marketing. He brings a seasoned balance of industry and capital fund raising expertise for emerging growth and entrepreneurial companies. He has a proven track record of success in new market identification and strategic market positioning, including more than 20 years of business expertise in the China and Asia markets.
Mr. Peters has a keen understanding of technology, capital markets, and acquisitions and to date, has raised over $400+ million dollars in private equity and debt financing. Mr. Peters is the former Founder and President/Co-CEO of Bluestreak Network, a technology company he co-founded in 2002, whose clients included cable television and mobile phone operators throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. Prior to Bluestreak, Mr. Peters was senior executive at Source Media Inc., where he spearheaded business development and forged key deals in the cable, wireless and technology sectors, domestically and internationally. He holds a BA from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
